Search and Rescue Teams in British Columbia are composed of some 4000 volunteers province wide and participate in approximately 1000 searches per year. Not all these searches occur in the wilderness. Urban searches occur for Alzheimer’s patients, missing children and police evidence searches.
Search and Rescue personnel also assist in road control during fires, floods, or in evacuations during any Civic Emergency. Search and Rescue is part of EMBC (Emergency Management British Colunbia) and is responsible to that agency.
